|
Two men standing outside a fried chicken restaurant in Queens, New York were injured when they were hit by an out-of-control car that smashed into the side of the building.
The car was captured by a surveillance camera on the block just seconds before it slammed into the restaurant, striking the two men standing outside, television station ABC7 reports. The accident occurred at the corner of Springfield Avenue and Hempstead Avenue. The driver had left the scene by the time police arrived.
Police say the cause of the crash was not clear. Area residents who regularly cross at the intersection say speeding and careless driving are common in the area.
The accident happened at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and the restaurant was open at the time. Neighboring shopkeepers say the entire building shook. Police say no one inside the restaurant was hurt, but the two men standing outside were struck. Both men suffered leg injuries. They were taken to North Shore-LIJ Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, ABC7 reports.
