Vehicle Crashes into Aeropostale in Queens
|
A car crashed through the front windows of a crowded Aeropostale store in Bayside, Queens, CBS New York reports. Luckily, no one suffered serious injuries. "I didn't know what was happening, I ran, I ran out of the store," employee Soraya Mortagun told CBS. "I was folding my shirts and I just saw like one piece by piece falling I didn't even see the car at first," Approximately 15 people were in the store when the incident occurred. CBS reports that the manager was cut by glass, but no serious injuries were reported. The driver also did not suffer any injuries.
Witness Joe Illescas told CBS that the driver looked like she was attempting to park in a handicap spot when she crashed into the store. "You can see that she was parking, trying to put it in park, she didn't have it in park, took her foot off the brake and must have accelerated, right inside," Illescas said to CBS. "Thank god there's no tragedy, call it luck, a miracle, thank god everybody is okay."
Sadly, motor vehicle accidents do not always end in this manner. A recent 4-car collision in Upper Manhattan killed one person and injured seven others. According to The Daily News, a black Chrysler 300 and a red Nissan Maxima were stopped at a red light at West 228th Street in Marble Hill when a silver Volkswagen GTI tried to squeeze between the two vehicles, crashing into Chrysler and then into the Nissan, ripping the side passenger rear wheel off. The Chrysler and Nissan were sent across the intersection and collided with an oncoming Ford Taurus. The Volkswagen driver was 54-year-old William Hay; he was taken to Columbia University Medical Center where he later died. A 12-year-old boy was among the seven people injured in the incident.
